You can buy good runners from Hafele or equally as good from screwfix! You could then try making the drawers out of 12mm MDF back front and sides and 6mm MDF base, You can then screw any drawer front on you like directly through the 12mm MDF, which enables you to change them anytime you like including handles. In doing this i have had the same drawer carcasses for 7 years but had 3 new fronts and 4 sets of handles!!!

Look for a Blum Metabox or equivalent style - metal sides to which you add a bottom and back in MFC (melamine-faced chipboard). The biggest pain is to get the sides of the carcasses drilled correctly to take the runners (which are inevitably not in the same place), so a jig is a worth while investment if you are doing many.
