I am looking to replace the wooden french windows in my house with possibly Bifold doors as I believe when they are open you get a bigger open space?

They look very nice but are they as secure as traditonal french windows?

There is room to make the door space a bit bigger how big a job is it to widen the opening to allow for a 4 door folding system?

Would you need planning permission?

If I go for them would you recommend wood, pvc or aluminium?

The opening is only as big as the hole in the wall whatever your choice, sercurity is probably better with Bi folds than French doors, makeing the hole larger is a big job removing brickwork, fitting a lintel, makeing good the floor and plastering. Avoid upvc for Bi fold Ali and top quality timber are ok. Planning : every council is different but proberbly not.
