Hi,

I don't know whether this is the correct forum to raise this question but I live in a modern house with the standard pre-cast flue.

I want to have a new gas fire without the need for an hearth and like the Brilliant Innovation C4:

http://fireplacemegastore.co.uk/hole-in-the-wall-gas-fires/brilliant-innovation-c4/index.htm

Although this is designed for pre-cast flues, to have the fire sufficiently far enough up the wall (to avoid the skirting and meet the Regs), then the inside of the fire will exceed the height of the pre-cast flue and won't fit.

It has been suggested that the top (starter) block in the flue recess could be removed and replaced with an open block to make the flue recess bigger. Has anyone heard about this being done and how big a job it is? Its more of a building job than anything so any views would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Damian
