Been asked to replace this shower mixer so apologies if the photos don’t show much as this is all I’ve been sent. I know the connections are flex pipes & I’ve only ever replaced ones with copper pipes coming out of the wall, so is it just the same as undoing those nuts & taking off & what type of connection on the flex pipe would I expect to see?

I don't think that they'll be flexi pipes. An exposed valve - make dependent - can have different ways of connecting to the supplies in the wall. They aren't usually the same as say a bar should that uses tails, a mounting kit and then just tighten onto 3/4" male ends.

Invariably they have a bespoke type fitting that's unique to their make. Do you know the make/model?

Time to get the water off and get that all disconnected and see what you've got coming out the wall. I do think though that you need to have a word with the client first and explain that there is going to be some investigation first to see what's what, as the current supplies aren't as standard.

Also what's going back in?

It’s one of the old Bristan Colonial mixers & I’m replacing it with another similar mixer. This is how the current mixer is connected so how do I go about replacing this with a new one? Do I just loosen off the nuts to remove & then should the new one be able to connect with these pipes?

Do you mean it has been plumbeb with plastic pipe or that flexi pipes have been plastered into the wall. I think you need to read something like this
No I know how to install shower mixers but I’ve only ever seen it with copper pipes coming out the wall this has flexi pipes which I haven’t seen before so was unsure how it was connected to the actual mixer.

Ah ok - do you have a picture of the front of the valve? Will help determine what version it is.

Most of the exposed bristans use a compression fitting arrangement so they must be something similar to plain ended flexi pipes

Something similar to these possibly -

So the nuts on the elbow will be compression and the flexi's plain end is basically held in by the nut and an compression olive.

So water off undo the nut and the nut/olive and flexi should release out the elbow. It all depends on whether the new shower's fittings match the old one if the old nut and olive can be re-used (with some PTFE tape on the olive). If not then the nut and olive need to be removed and the new shower's ones used. The flexi's, if plain ended, should be ok to use if not damaged/marked badly

Here’s the valve if it helps to work out which version it is.

ah - that looks like that'll be their 1st iteration of the colonial valve - cant see there being a manual available for that. Maybe with a call to Bristan but that would take time.

I'd be isolating it and taking it off to see what's what.
