Hi,

I have an 18' x 10' sectional concrete garage where the panels bolt together through the sides.

I have a 3ft half height window in the side elevation with a half height concrete panel below.

I'd like to remove the half height concrete panel and the window and replace it with an access door.

Any advice on whether this is possible, how removing the dwarf concrete panel will affect the strength and also best way of fixing the new door frame to the surrounding concrete panels??

The roof does not bear onto the existing window as the roof supports are carried either side of the opening so no issues there.

Basically what will happen when i disconnect that half height concrete panel?!

Thanks in advance.

Based on the construction of my sectional concrete garage, there is a small concrete panel above the door opening which basically secures the wall sections either side of the door to maintain the rigidity of the structure (I assume). If that were not present then I guess the wall sections could move out of line. Perhaps you could brace across the top of the opening with some angle iron to keep the walls in line?

You could have a problem with the rigidity of the wall if you remove that plus you have a roof support smack in the middle. It will definitely need some stiff bracing across the opening otherwise the wall could bow in or out over the course of time.
