Hi

I wish to replace three radiators which are 32 years old, they are:

2 single @ 60cms deep x 166cms wide. In the case of one of these I wish to replace with a double radiator of less width say 60cms deep x 80cms wide, in this case I will have to dig up the concrete floor as pipework is embedded in the concrete.

1 double @ 60cms deep x 132cms wide.

I wish to obtain radiators as close to possible of the above sizes but outputting the same btus or slightly higher. What would be the best size and make rads to achieve this?

All my rads are fitted with Honeywell TRVs. When removing existing rads would I be correct that to ensure there is no leakage from the TRV that I undo the knurled ring below the plastic cover and remove the body and then fit the cap that comes with the radiator which I believe holds the pin down.

Regards and many thanks

If you get roughly the same size as you have now the heat output should be near enough the same (or possibly better if your present rads don't have any convection fins). Go for Stelrad Compact rads, they're good quality. You'll almost certainly find you need to make some kind of alteration to all the pipework, as it's unlikely the pipes on the new rads will be the same distance from the wall as they were on the old ones.

You are correct about the procedure for making the TRVs safe, but given the above point you'll need to drain the entire system anyway, making it largely irrelevant

Thanks muggles for you advice. I'll have a look at the steelrad rads and see what their nearest sizes are. You are right the existing rads do not have any fins.
