replacing Vokera 80SP, flue questions

Hi There,

I will be replacing my failing 80SP with the Worcester Greenstar 30cCDI, I hope it's a good choice.

I would like to buy it asap so it's ready to install by the end of next week but I would like to ask for some advise before I splash the cash.

As it's Christmas I want to spend as little as possible and I don't want to waste money on incorrect parts or parts I might not need. I see the 30CDI's are sold as single units or sold with a flue kit, sometimes with a timer.


Can I ask, do I need to buy this flue kit that comprises of the corner and the horizontal pipe or can I buy a adaptor/corner or something that will let me connect it to the current flue. Replacing the current pipework would be fairly awkward and possibly expensive as the distance to the outside wall is a few meters.

Also, what is the plug in timer for and can I use the boiler to set times for the radiator without one.


I would ask the guy who will be doing the work but I won't be able to contact him until late next week when he should be available to do the work.

You cannot connect a WB boiler to a Vokera flue system.The built in timer is an option and will allow you to set CH on and off times,but this is also possible with a programmable room stat either wireless or hard wired.As you must have some sort of temp control that interlocks with the boiler I would recommend the prog room stat.

Do not see how the 80SP could be failing if it has been looked after.

Lack of proper service and care will kill any boiler. Have yet to come across a Vokera of that vintage that needs to be taken out because it is 'failing', more like it has been neglected.

Re. the 80SP.
It's been in a long time, a long time before I had this house and I've had several people look at it and fix it, change this part, and that part, it's not very economical, it's loosing pressure, I can't have a shower without turning on the heating. British gas have been to it twice and have condemned it. It's probably cost me £400 in repairs over the past 3 or 4 years and everybody who looks at it tells me to get a new one.

Not that like I was talking about that boiler or anything.

What's this, the "ask a question get one answer and a bunch of diggs" forum.

My wife works at next and a new starter there said he's corgi registered and will fit the boiler. Not that it matters but she won't see him until next week and she does not have his number.

Makes sense really, half the engineers who look at my boiler are a bunch of miserable ass holes, especially the British Gas ones.

Not a dig, just happens to be the post ending paragraph favoured by those who are about to DIY their boiler but for some reason won't admit it. You can see for yourself. Your line about 'miserable ass holes' only reinforces that impression.

still have a vokera 20 80 rs turbo.working well in a house i rent out,ok its now really old but chuggs on.
its had a few water thermostats but recent stat 8 years on now has been no problem.
serviced as per vokeras book once a year by a local guy,he changes diaphgrams,washers and spring on a valve that oftens breaks up.
money well spent.
now days boilers need regular maintaince so say £100.00 spent on insurance a year is the only option or get it serviced from some one savvy with your boiler..

I'm told mine is more like 14 years old.

I tried to get it insured a few times but they would not touch it.
If I remember rightly, the last thing that was done was the diaphragm by somebody who apparently owns the same boiler but this actually didn't help much. He said the inside of that area had changed shape or warped or something to that affect and the diaphragm had warped with it, so when the new one went in it didn't fit correctly.

What do I know, maybe he was talking crap but surely they all weren't.

Anyway I'm happy your boiler is still going strong, if I could get mine to do that I would be as happy as Larry.

But now I'm fed up and I want a new boiler fitted professionally so I have a a new warranty and the possibility to insure it, things I don't get if I do it myself hey Tibbot

Think again - manufacturers protection of installer's interests has long gone. They'll give you a warranty alright (despite all the b****cks they spout) how else can they keep you onside for their extended warranty business?

OP, the Turbo is more like 30 years old.

DP- You're thinking of DC Turbo from '82. OP stated an 80SP which will be Excell pilot models produced from about '93. Johnojob's RS Turbo dates from '85-'89.
