Repoint eroded bricks near drains

Hi all,
Previous owners did not fix blocked drains, and over time water has damaged the surrounding brickwork.

Looks like some terrible repointing has been done previously to patch up the work.

I sent the photos to a builder who suggested repointing the back wall ( back wall of upper bedroom ) as the repointing was terrible and wrong materials used.

Is it better to repoint the whole wall, or just the damaged bricks. If it is a relatively small job, I see the merit in fixing the whole lot if it will fix the problem. But I don’t want to repair the whole lot if unnecessary.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best not use that builder. Just do the defective bits, but I am struggling to see where the actual problem is.

I'm dumbstruck by that weather struck pointing:unsure:
