Just been grinding away the joints on my chimney stack before repointing

There are some horrible fern type roots groing and attacking the motar joints - so it definately
needs repointing for sure - just come down now and got me thinking what sort of cement is in the bricks

Its looks like cement in places but in other places its quite white especially when gound away

Would it be lime in a 1930s semi???

Might get some whit vinegar on the joints in the attic!
