Repointing Mortar

I have an 1890's build house which requires some work on the roof. Can any one tell me what type of motar mix I would need to repoint the fillet on the ridge tiles, and also the verges on the edges and dorma front. I have been told that I should use a lime / softwash mix.....would like to keep as authentic as possible as this is a chracter property.

Make sure you remove loose pointing,clear with wire brush and wet otherwise it will not get a good hold.Personaly i use 3 to 1.

Is that 3:1 softwash with lime?
