Hi, I’ve got an area of brickwork where the previous owners don’t seem to have used enough cement in the mix so the pointing is very sandy and comes out when I scratch it with my finger nail.

With this happening, I should really repoint the area I guess?

Could you give me tips on how deep to cut out, what strength mix to use, which sand to use (the colour of it currently isn’t white and it’s not red) and if you’d use a caulk gun or not bother.

Any other tips in order to do a good job would be really appreciated please.

Thanks everyone.

Its been a few years but if I remember correctly we did it like this.
Cut out about 20mm with an angle grinder with a stone grinding blade.
Wash out with a hose
Building sand but do a small area and leave it a while to see if you like it.
I'd use a round jointing iron.
Have it not too wet so it has some body.
Do the vertical perps first then horizontal beds.
When its fairly dry brush diagonaly with soft brush.

Ahh brilliant, that’s. And they fit on an angle grinder fine do they? What size bucket handle should I use to finish with? They seem to come in a range of sizes.
