Hi all

We are currently half way through building our 1st floor timbers on our extension and our plans say '' provide 30 x 5 galv mild steel restraint staps at max 2000 c/c and solid strutting at mid span''
Can anyone enlighten us on where these restaint straps go? ie; do they strap 2 joists together? similar to a noggin?
Thanks for any advice
Merry xmas

the straps are fitted across three joists and are built into the masonry.

noggings are fitted along with the straps to create a solid bridge.

these are used at the gable ends too, linking the roof rafters to the gable masonry.

three joists or rafters must be bridged.

if you are laying them across the floor joists, don't forget to notch them down, as not to interfere with the floor boards. ;)

i think the rules apply to spans over 4m, hence every 2m.
