This sounds like a silly question, but you don't know what you don't so I have to ask!
I have an old Ideal E-Type floor standing boiler, with open flue that runs up to a ridge vent. No obvious problems, has been running fine, although overdue a service.
I had some roofers around today and other than what they were looking at, they mentioned that the ridge vent for the flue was very hot, so hot that even being close to it, the gas coming from it was toohot to be close to.
Now, on a winters morning, with a flue that runs from ground floor to ridge on a 2 storey house - is that normal? The heating had been on for a number of hours before they came.
I have never noticed the flue in the kitchen getting worryingly hot (insulated?), but then I have read that the gasses are at 180'c, so it stands to reason that the vent would get hot - but the roofers must have thought it was abnormal to pass comment, compared to other ridge vents they have been around.
I'll be calling a heating engineer in the morning for a service, etc anyway - but does that sound normal?
