Hi all I have just purchased a new double socket the existing dressing from the ring main will not reach what are the recognised safe way I can extend the ends of my ring main..are wagos british standard as they look or simple clear plastic block conector...or crimps.. thanks for advice.

If the joint is to be hidden within floor/ceiling voids, the maintenance free methods should be used, Ashely/Hager MF boxes can be used.

If joints are to be buried in walls, then I would replace the length of cable.
If the joint is to be made in an accessible enclosure, then a simple connector strip or the wagos can be used.

Hi thanks for the reply, I was looking at joining inside the wall sunk metal lining junction box that the double socket is mounted on. Its in my living room so i don't want to damage existing wall and paint. eg i just need to add 20-30mm to each cable. In the past I would have used a simple terminal block? The ashley looks ideal if I was able to run from the floor or ceiling cavity but all wiring is sunk into the wall and concrete flooring so just ideas for a simple socket face replacement

Will the joint be accessible once the work is completed if not, a simple connector of Wago will not do as the joint requires to be Maintenance Free, if the joint is accessible (for maintenance, inspection and test) then Wagos or terminal strips can be used, the joint must be in an enclosure to prevent accidental contact with live parts.

You must check they are compliant to BS5733-MF, if not they cannot be used as a MF joint, the wording on the specification suggests that maybe they are not.

Doesn't sound like a MF joint is required as the joint is accessible
Trying to make out whether it is or not, I have given all the relevant information but still not sure if the joint is going to concealed or accessible.
If it is accessible all that is required is choc block and a suitable enclosure, whether that be within a backbox with blank plate or within the socket backbox, I cannot workout.

If the cable joints are accessible, you do not need anything fancy although I do like the look of the inline connectors linked, but I have never used them. I did very recently contact the the manufacturers of them, regarding their claims suggesting that it complied to BS5733, but they had the wording of optional printed on a labeled diagram of the system, which had me wondering. Their reply stated by using the connectors they stock it would comply, but their connectors do not have the BS5733-MF printed on them, so that would suggest they don't.
Anyway if MF not required any suitable rated connector and an enclosure that prevents accidental contact and preferably with cord grip for cables.
