We have a single ring main serving upstairs and down in our small terrace. Whilst doing some other works I want to change out a couple of single sockets for doubles. Is there a limit to the number of times I can do this? Is there a limit on the total number of sockets?

I have some socket outlets that aren't in use which I can remove if that's of any help?

Thanks in advance.

There is no limit, per se, on the number of socket outlets allowed on a ring final. The limiting factors are more to do with maximum served floor area, maximum demand, ELI & disconnection times, R1+R2, etc - with the exception perhaps of maximum demand, these should not be affected by changing to double outlets.

So in short, yes, it should be fine - as long as you don't plan on plugging in a pair of fan heaters or some other stupidly large load into every double outlet!
