Excellent, thank you. Don't know why I've never noticed this before. Now I need to find a bike pump.
With a gauge.

That's hard part.
surprised that you had the time to be on here this weekend APOD thought you would have been on the **** big timeFigure 93 in the MI shows the boiler drain cock
Nice one mate never made it this year if over next year will give you a shout and meet and have a fewYesterday was! Today a sobering up exercise!
your condensate pipe should go into a drain or a soakaway but sounds like you have sorted your problemUpdate.
Shut off flow and return pipes and mains water.
Emptied boiler via the drain point until zero.
Somehow got the pump on and pumped for a bit (my arm was dead) water was still trickling out of the drain point then the pump got tight and started holding pressure. Pumped to the required pressure and now filled it all back up again.
Fingers crossed this works. If not I guess I'm looking at an external vessel which would be a damn sight easier than pumping the existing one.
Thanks all for your help even if some of you are a little tender after yesterday.
Sorry I meant overflow pipe from the PRV. It's directly under the flue on the gable of the house.your condensate pipe should go into a drain or a soakaway but sounds like you have sorted your problem
Update 2.
Heating has been on for about an hour. Pressure started at 1.2 bar and rise to 1.8 bar but seemed to stay at that, before it was way up over 2.5 bar. I've just switched the heating off and will let it cool. There is still a wet patch outside but the problem is that the overflow pipe and flue are in line with each other so I don't know what one the discharge is coming from.
If the pressure drops again overnight do I assume I need the external expansion vessel or with no water coming from the existing do we assume it's working OK and it's another issue?
Thanks again.
U have blocked up heating system
What u need is a gas Enginer to carry out a ful service or some here might say a full strip down and change
-a Prv,
-new ex vessel or recharge,
-fit newpressure gauge or or use an air compressor to clean the tube
-check the divert valve if its leaking
-by-pass
-Strip the pump check its performance/ clogged manifold
-And also see if u need a
Powerflush
-and fit a Megan clean.
Just to mention a few
