rockery around waterfall- advice on plants, planting etc

As part of my ongoing pond project I have just built the rock park of the rockery around what is a pre formed glass fibre immitation rock waterfall.

I fancy some alpine type plants needing little maintenance.

Any advice on planting methods, soil type, gravel etc would be appreciated

alpines require a coarse mix of "soil" and gravel, they like their drainage
