I'm removing the ceiling from the top floor of my house in order to make the room open to the roof space. I need to insulate the roof, and having read this forum I think I will use tri-iso super 9, a kind of radiant barrier which is only 2cm thick, with plasterboard over the top. However as I live right on a fairly busy road, I'm wondering about its noise insulation qualities of this combination. I've read that tri-iso super 9 offers 42db noise protection. I've no idea whether this is a lot or not. Any tips? Thanks in advance

I would imagine this will not provide a high level of sound insulation.
It is difficult to establish exactly without seeing the documentation is this the reduction or the performance?

Sound proofing as a general rule is "better" when using a denser material. If trying to achieve sound & thermal insulation I would recommend an Accoustic Mineral Wool in addition to the plasterboard backed insulation. This will greatly improve both sound & thermal properties of your roof.

Select a density of between 50 & 60kg/m2 for best performance at an economical rate however obviously with this product the denser the better. Do a serach for Rockwool or try this link www.domesticsoundproofing.co.uk/products.htm.
