Roof light and upstand

Hi, i want to fit a rooflight to my ensuite bathroom.

It mentions i need to build an upstand, is that just a timber frame protruding above the roof line?

It's a flat felt roof, do i have to re-lay the whole of the roofing or can i just patch it with layers on top with a tin of bitumen from Wickes?

Any help most appreciated.

Yes the upstand is just a timber frame.

Obviously the best job would be a completely new felted roof but IMO it's worth a chance at patching over as you suggest and if it fails you have it replaced.
