roof looks a mess

hi all,
our neighbours have had a new roof put on and the roofer has cut the slates down the party wall centre so that they dont overlap they just butt up. this has left a gap between our slates and the neighbours shouldnt it be filled in with something?? the slates also are slighty raised when they get to this centre point what is put under them is it safe will my slates fly off when its windy??? it looks a right mess!!!apparently this is the new way of doing it nowadays

He should have fitted a propriatary gutter at the joint to prevent rain from getting under the slates.
