Hey folks. I saw a house today where the purlin struts are thin pieces of tongue and groove. Does this look like a bodge job or normal?

Also, where the purlins sit on the outer walls look a bit ropey. Again, is it normal?

Cheers!

The roof load is transferred most effectively when the purlins are perpendicular but the designer presumably took account of this. Assuming the struts don’t sit on a load bearing or beam, they would probably add little to the overall load bearing capacity of the purins other than maybe resisting twist.
