Roof slates - view from the attic

As long as your roof is keeping out the weather dont worry. But your roof is probably going to need to be renewed in the not to distant future.

many thanks - i guess renewing would involve replacing all tiles? Is there anything that can be done in the meantime to save a big bill in the future? (Stitch in time saves nine!)

cheers

The biggest problem with old slate roofs is nail fatigue and there is nothing that can be done about that. All you can do is have any slipped slates repaired and ensure that any flashings or fillets are in good order. The trouble is the cost of the tepairs can quickly add up to a good patr of the cost ofrenewing the roof.

And remember that for every slate re-fixed/repaired, a few more will get broken. Save your money for a proper re-felt and slate.

From what I can see everything looks fine you could have another 30yrs left in that roof.

Good lookin' roof that - maybe some slight frosting of the slates in places.
Avoid all temptations to get the thing spray foamed!!
John :)

And avoid all temptations to employ " casua l/ itinerant " roofers . It ain`t the Streets of London that are paved with gold - It`s the roofs  A pic. of the outside would be useful ;)
