I noticed that there is a vertical hairline crack in the mortar of the roof verge, near the top (near where the ridge tiles are). Other than that, the verge looks fine. It happens that our neighbour's roof verge also has one. Is this quite common? I just wonder if I need to do anything about it? The house is about 20 years old and I don't know how long the crack has been there.

Thanks in advance.

It would be surprising if there wasn't a crack in that position. Roofs flex a lot in wind; not a problem.
