Hello,
I have just moved house recently, and in the front room, there is a very old Satchwell dial thermostat. This is like a sore thumb in the room so I would like to change it for a more modern one. Can I just go to a shop and pick up anyone and replace it ?
sorry if it appears a stupid question.

thanks

Turn off the power to the system, remove the cover from the old stat and count the connecting wires.
There may be three (including Earth) or four.
Get the appropriate replacement '2' or '3' wire thermostat and make sure you connect the right wires to the right connectors, with the power to the system switched OFF.

(The extra wire is a (mains) neutral connection required by some stats to reduce the temperature range between OFF and ON.)
