We have a existing rear single storey extention at the back of our house.
Currently there are two single rsjs in the breakthrough, one in kitchen and one in the reception room and they both sit on a central brick pillar.
We are now wondering how would we go
about getting rid of this central pillar.
I know its a question for a structural engineer to work out the feasibility and calculations etc, and i will most certainly be doing that. I had a brief conversation with him some time back and he was confident it would be possible.
My question is more about the installation side of it.
The joist for the rooms above web into the rsjs,
Does the mean the only way we'd be able to install these new rsj's is to cut the cielings from within the reception room and kitchen and cut the joists or can the install be done from the outside via the pitch roof?
My strong guess is that its only possible through the ceiling.
I want to go with the least disruption option to the room below.
