Hi good evening all I’m just on stripping house I’ve just purchased and noticed this rsj supporting underneath the stairs going from kitchen to hallway. It’s probably been like this for some time the house is 60s ex council should I be concerned. I’m planning on blocking up underneath from floor to underside of the rsj to create a solid wall to fit new kitchen. Thanks

Timber between the beam and masonry not ideal but very much doubt it’ll be an issue or worth doing anything about. It’s still taking the load of the wall above.

I’ve now blocked underneath the beam to floor level using concrete 7N blocks so almost certainly shouldn’t go anywhere now
