RSJ Spec for 4M span doors, single story only, SE needed?

Hi,

Progessing with my house extension and am now looking at the RSJ needed to go above the 4M bi-folding doors we have planned. As this is all being completed under building regs, do I need to show a SE report for the RSJ spec.

Also, has anyone fitted a RSJ recently for such a span, and what was the spec, thanks

If it is a lintel that is only taking usual bulding loads you should give IG or catnic a ring they probably have an off the shelf lintel that will work. Otherwise your probably best getting a SE involved.

4m even for a standard lintel is pushing it a little, unless its a non load bearing wall..

Spoke to catnic and they spec'd up a CX70/100 to handle the job. Just need to be wary of drilling into the lintel and use bitumin paint to protect the DPC finish, and also install a DPC tray 1 brick course above.

Just be sure that neither your first floor or roof bear onto that wall.
