After the deluge on Monday our boiler stopped working and a puddle of water underneath ,when I unscrewed the casing water was inside and filled a saucepan underneath, the gutter could not cope with the deluge and overflowed into the outside vent ,its all gone rusty !, but will I be insured ?

Lets assume for a moment that you have some of house&home cover with an insurance company....

They will no doubt have sent you a copy of the policy for you to keep. Th ey may have even sent you a piece of paper with a 'customer service' telephone number or that new-fangled commuter thingie mumbojumbo www.summmat.

May I respectfully suggest then that you find out the name and contact details of that company and then ask them?, because we sure as heck don't know...

If you have insurance, i would think they should cover it.
Although they sometimes call these acts of nature or simila and may refuse.
Let us know when you ring and find out.

Are you sure the gutter really is properly fitted and adequate for the job?

Then is the boiler flue correctly fitted?

Even if your insurance would cover it there may be many get outs !

I shall put a claim in and let you all know, by the way my gutter is fine also the vent , it was just one of those big storms we have more often, and will have to somehow make sure it doesn't happen again.

Be warned that your insurers will not pay out if maintenance (clearing of gutters and down pipes has not be done in a timely matter) Insurance Co's can be as slippery as a tank of eels when it comes to dodging pay-outs!
