rust removal

"Jenolite" liquid rust remover, obtainable at motorists accessory shops. You can also use it on rusty steel, of course, and on e.g. china plates that have been left damp with a steel item in contact and picked up a rust stain. You must clean the surface thoroughly so there is no trace of grease or soap that could prevent it penetrating the stain.

I find that on a sink or plate, best result is to wet a piece of absorbent paper kitchen roll with the acid, and lies it on the stain to keep it in contact. After 20 mins it will probably have dried out, you can either drip some more on to wet it, or use a fresh piece.

You can brush it onto steel surfaces where you do not have the problem of getting into the "pores" of a glossy ceramic surface.

Wear rubber gloves and wash exposed skin carefully immediately after use as it is an acidic product and you won't notice splashes burning through your skin until they reach a nerve. Best to use eye protection in case of splashes.
