Hi all

Just a quickie..... I know it is generally seen as good practice to sand between coats of paint, but I wanted to check whether this is still necessary for matt paints. I'm using this stuff on my exterior wooden windows:

Hoping to get the job finished ASAP with the weather turning. So if I can skip the sanding and clean up between the two top coats that will help a lot. But if it's needed, it's needed.... So thought I'd best check with you guys.

Cheers

Max

As a rule of thumb it is not neccessary to sand between coats provided that the previous coat has not fully cured.

With waterbased paints you are looking at up to 3 days, unless the makers suggest otherwise.

It surely depends on the quality of the original preparation, the state of the wood/metal underneath and whether the surface feels smooth to the touch before each top coat.

Hi EB

the OP was asking about sanding between top coats, I assumed that he had already prep'd prior to painting.

It also depends how good you want it to look! But yes, proberbly overkill.
