Sand under weed fabric?

A quick q for those in the know?

I’m laying gravel in a section of my garden for veg beds. Will have medium traffic as will also be the main route to lower part of garden.

Do I need a layer of sand between the soil (quite clay heavy in parts) and weed fabric?
Soil already quite high so wanted to avoid to save more excavating but understand why it might make stones sink less if I have it.

No. Ants will get in the sand I find.
Although you can use sand to level out but better to just have weed membrane on soil I think.

Check for any sharp stones and lay straight on top without the sand
