Sanding Before Primer?

I have bare wood door frames and architrave, I'm going to start to prime these tomorrow, the fresh wood is quite smooth.

Do I need to sand before priming?

How Many coats of primer? Shall I sand lightly between coats?

Many Thanks

You do not need to sand first as the primer will raise the grain of the wood and the primer will bind this together. This can then be sanded ready for the undercoat. Only one coat of primer is needed.
