doing some painting on soffits and fascias which require sanding down
in some areas paint has crack and flake, can you suggest a good quality
sand paper which will cut through paint or other alternatives
Usual disclaimer first - I’m not a professional, just a fairly experienced DIYer.
But in the absence of professional replies here’s my 2p worth:
Take the cracked and peeling paint off with a scrapper before you sand.
As with so many things you get what you pay for. If you buy cheep sandpaper it’ll clog and lose it’s abrasiveness very quickly. I use the Aluminum Oxide paper. There’s a few other good brands about, so just don’t go for the cheep packs.
Cut the paper into good sizes and fold over into thirds. Bend the paper over the back of something straight and pull it down a few times to soften it. Start with a heave grit and work down. Keep beating the paper to keep it clean.
Don’t forget to prime bare wood before undercoating it.
