Sandstone bay surrounds

Hi there

Just looking to renovate the front of my bungalow and the limestone bay window surrounds, sills in particular, look in a sorry state once the peeling paint is knocked off. Someone has repaired the cracks already, but seemed to have used polyfiller or similar as it is just crumbling away.

Should I be worried about large cracks in the stones (blocks really) and what can i use to fill the holes prior to painting again please?

You can point cracks with mortar or a paintable mastic

For charge chunk repairs a proprietary external filler may be better than plain sand and cement - have a look here www.toupretpro.co.uk/products/product_view.php?pid=5
