hi guys, i have literally walls and ceilings in my house covered with really spiky textured art-ex, it would literally cut me if i ran my hands over it, its that thick. (doesn't look too dissimilar from an ice cave)

after replacing floorboards downstairs, i discovered rubble which i presume was from lazy decorating previously, and amongst that was a lid for this "Sandtex" has anyone heard of it? heres the lid:

my question, 1: do you think the below picture is this stuff if you know what it is:

2: do you think it could be asbestos in it, as through choice i would just like to scrape it all off as it seems pretty smooth underneath

3: could it be thick textured paint as opposed to artex (if you dont think its this sandtex)

I think you have got sandtex there its textured paint I thought it was only used out side but obviously not, I dont think it has got asbestos in it as it is liquid form as opposed to powder form for artex...the lads will proably know.... You can still get Sandtex exterior paint and you can get smooth or texured I think....

thanks for the reply, to be honest, the house ive moved into.. the woman who lived here for 20 years before me didnt even know what a paint brush was, and the guy who lived here before her is the person who did all this, an i hear he was a builder by trade but a bit of a cowboy that did these things to sell the house at the time

so it wouldn't surprise me if it was meant for the exterior and he just put it indoors..

there was an archway that they had removed a wall to open up the space and instead of clearing it all, they just put it underneath the floorboards downstairs.. loads of brick.. cowboy!!
