Can anyone advise? I'm having a garden room built and the designer recommended Sandtoft 20 20 clay tiles as solution to tiling a 21 degree pitched roof. Have come home today and the headlap on the first rows laid looks shallow. Have looked on their site and they have specifications for 75mm headlap or 100mm headlap, but their claims on being tested successfully under wet conditions in a wind tunnel etc down to 15 degrees specify 100 mm headlap. Should I insist on 100 mm headlap? The roof faces east onto flat farmland.

You should insist on whatever the manufacturer's recomend for 21degrees, ring their technical support and they'll tell you as quick as a flash, then you can speak with authority and say you've spoken to the manufacturer and the gaurantee on the tiles will be invalid rather than found out from some bloke on the internet!
Probably won't make much difference tbh.

Your best option at 21 degrees is to increase the headlap to 100mm. Chances are the tiles will be fine at 75mm but if you feel the roof is in a exposed area then it is best to err on the side of safety. The amount and type of fixings depends also on how exposed the roof is - and on a number of other factors. You should contact Sandtoft Technical Department on 0844 9395 999 or go on the web site at sandtoft.com and there is a form you can fill in to get a fixing specification.
Good luck. John Mercer: Sandtoft Technical Manager
