As there are many topics regarding "should i replace my sash windows with DG argon filled cavity......" at a cost of £800 or there abouts, or should I overhaul the existing.....

I had a quotation for overhauling the existing including making good all timbers where necessary, reglazing where necessary, draught proofing, new cills stripping paint and priming ready for redecoration all for £150 per window.

This immediately made my mind up to overhaul and maintain the character of the building (i have 3 windows therefore saving approx £2000!). I live in suffolk, so if anyone would like the details of this specialist reply to this post and i'll advise accordingly.

That's an incredibly good price. For the painting, first, what age are the windows? if pre 1950, they were probably first painted with linseed oil paints, where priming is a coat of raw linseed oil. I've been looking closely at this and other oil treatments, and they will look after the wood better than modern paints for the equivalent effort. This may help, they run courses too, I'm glad I went.

PS who are they?

I am about to overhaul my sash windows and that sounds like a really good deal.
If you could post details that would be great!!
