Sash window sealant - trowel mastic v polysulphide sealant?

The mastic looks much more solid (even though it takes 6 months to cure) but I hear they're both good. What are your views?

I've applied the polysulphide today and I can't see much difference to silicone - is it actually better?

How long do you have to wait before painting over polysulphide?

And if you're doing belt and braces approach how long do you have to wait before putting trowel mastic on top of polysulphide?

Which is better to use on the cill seal? And which on the window verticals?
