Hi,

I'm trying to install a new graphics card in my destop pc. The heat sink on the card blocks the sata port that my dvd drive is currently plugged into so I switched the dvd to port 2 (SATA ports are numbered 0-3 on my MB). The dvd shows as being connected to port 2 in the BIOS, but there is now no sign of the DVD drive in windows (Win 8 64-bit)? How do I get it to show up?

Which give the following as the answer

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...e/dvd-drive-not-recognized-in-windows-8/ad546

1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator. Type cmd in Windows 8 modern UI and press cltr+shift+enter

2. Type following and say enter

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

3. Reboot the system

4. Verify if the problem has been resolved

KingboyD - I will have a look at that - but the device is being picked up in the bios settings, its just windows that doesn't know its there...?

Skhudy - I found that online - seems to have solved the problem for lots of people, but doesn't solve it for me... :(

change it to another port, perhaps swap some around.
