Just over a year ago I upgraded my PC to have a solid state HDD and fitted an M2 to the mother board.

I now want to boot from the spinny SATA HDD (which I've been using as a data drive, but still has windows on it)

I couldn't select to boot from SATA only boot from Ethernet ports (WTF)

So I took the M2 out. And still can't seam to get back to being able to boot from SATA ?
What am I doing wrong?

Do these SATA hard drives have jumpers like IDE to set to master. I can't remember. Maybe I need to add a jumper?
I'm sure its bootable

It should be selectable in BIOS.
Was the SATA drive your original drive before the M2?
No need for jumpers with SATA! :)

Yes it was.

can’t select it in the F8 boot up menu or bios. thought it wasn’t very good at the time

With the M2 drive back in, can you run msconfig.
Under the boot tab, is your SSD listed as another OS?

I’ll check.
I think you hit on the problem.
The HDD isn’t the same bootable one.
It’s probably the other one in there that’s disconnected.
I’ll have a look in the evening.
