Saw set tools

Since we live in the age of hard point wood saws, are tooth set tools redundant?

I have a Jewson brand hard point saw that really just needs a bit of set. Its done about 15 years of work so the teeth are a bit dull but it still cuts well.

I tapered some fence posts but because the cut went a bit off, the saw got stuck which wouldn't happened with a bit more set. Sorted it with a bit oil on the blade.

Not redundant for me, I have one set thats excellent for hardpoint saws

Fifteen years? I'm lucky if I get fifteen months! If the teeth are a bit dull they really need sharpening - not easy when the hardened tips are almost as hard as saw files, but maybe doable with a triangular diamond file. Always thought that if you tried to set a hardpoint the teeth could break off or that they just wouldn't bend

The set in the pic is made by Sandvik which Ive been using since the 60’s and once the depth is set it doesn't break hardened teeth
