Hi

Is it possible to use SBR as a primer to paint external render ?

Part of the render has been stripped back to bare and other parts still has paint on that i cant get off , the sbr is from a left over job

Many thanks for your help

No. Just use thinned down paint for the first couple of coats.

Just like joe-90 said just thin down the paint for the first couple of coats or until the render stops absorbing it, obviously just do it on the bare bits. Using sbr would just put a barrier between the render and paint which could lead to peeling/flaking

Cheers for the reply , any idea on water / paint ratio ?

Would it be a 50 /50 same as painting mist coat on scim ?

Tks

Are you going to use oil based or water based paint, either way it will need to be the same sort of consistency as doing a mist coat but obviously you will be using white spirits for the oil based.

Look on the tin it will tell you there if its water based or oil based, if it tells you to clean your brush will soapy water then it's water based, the ratio for thinning paints varies from paint to paint and the condition of the surface you are painting the best way is to test it. If it doesn't absorb very well then thin it more
