I have just been given 5 8 foot scaffold boards which I want to use for shelving to hold books.

I have 3 6 foot lengths of galvinised steel which I will use as supports and fix to the floor boards and the wall with three cross pieces per shelf screwed into the wall with flanges. That would be three flanges per shelf plus support from the three main supports screwed into the floor boards with flanges.

The boards and steel seem quite heavy in total but I have seen them advertise as units of this size for quite a lot of money.

Is there anything else I should do or know about to make sure it is all safe or am I OK ?

Thanks

They are not in bad nick as they are Just washed a load of cement off them. I like them to look worn so will sand them rather than plane them I have used lots of pallet wood to line walls and did the same with them. Wash, bleach maybe, wash again, sand and stain maybe and oil them and maybe wax at the end or use that Fiddes oil wax.

At least it sounds as though they will not fall through the floor which is re assuring
