I need to get above a lean-to conservatory which is 12 ft wide X 8 ft deep. There is limited space and the job to do is small so I want to avoid the cost of scaffolding. What is the maximum length of scaffold plank available? Is there a suitable length plank to span this width?

i was in a scaffolding yard this week picking up some old boards. I think its 14 feet, but you obviously need to support it, most boards need support every 1.2metres. What have you got to do above it? or have you got a picture of the job, may be an easier or diffrent solution (got a few in mind!)

go to your local hire shop and ask about stagings or youngmans boards.these are specially made stagings usually 450mm wide for long spans, a quick google search gave lengths up to 24 feet , longer sizes may be available.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the hire shop. I need to fix a small leak in the conservatory roof but it is completely inaccessible - the roof will not support my weight.

Where about is the leak?

I normally take out one of the polycarbonate roofing sheet out then work off carefully off the step ladder to get at the point you want to.

Undo the rubber seal underneath then slide the roofing sheet out leaving the clip-on beading on top alone.
