What were they thinking? Do they really want you to be informed?
I have gotten, in the last month, boo coos of emails from well meaning
"friends" that cover topics ranging from worlds most dangerous spiders detected in the USA recently... to horror stories of people spontaneously combusting at the gas pump because they used their cell phone while pumping gas (not a wise move, but really, come on!) I know Im not the only one who gets them, but they seem to be at an all time high right now. What are some of the ones you receive?

Using one’s cell phone while pumping gas/petrol can cause an explosion.

busted

A properly-working cell phone poses almost no danger of igniting gasoline, even when surrounded by gasoline vapor with the optimum fuel-air mix for ignition. The actual risk comes from an electrostatic discharge between a charged driver and the car, often a result of continually getting into and out of the vehicle.

I found this on the busted web so the scary e-mails aren't so scary after all.

while I'm aware that there are dangers in the world --somehow deciphering what is true and what is a load of cobblers makes it difficult at best. The best one (imho) thus far is the deadly spider
A spider bite....please read............
And you thought the brown recluse was bad!!! Three women in North Florida,
turned up at hospitals over a 5-day period, all with the same symptoms.
Fever, chills, and vomiting, followed by muscular collapse, paralysis, and
finally, death. There were no outward signs of trauma. Autopsy results
showed toxicity in the blood.

These women did not know each other, and seemed to have nothing in common
It was discovered, however, that they had all visited the same restaurant
(Olive Garden) within days of their deaths. The health department
Descended on the restaurant, shutting it down. The food, water, and
Air conditioning were all inspected and tested, to no avail.

The big break came when a waitress at the restaurant was rushed to the
hospital with similar symptoms. She told doctors that she had been on
vacation, and had only went to the restaurant to pick up her check.

She did not eat or drink while she was there, but had used the restroom.
That is when one toxicologist, remembering an article he had read, drove
out to the restaurant, went into the restroom, and lifted the toilet
seat.. Under the seat, out of normal view, was a small spider.
The spider was captured and brought back to the lab, where it was
determined to be the Two-Striped Telamonia (Telamonia dimidiata), so named
because of its reddened flesh color. This spider's venom is extremely
toxic, but can take several days to take effect.. They live in cold, dark,
damp climates, and toilet rims provide just the right atmosphere.

Several days later a lawyer from Jacksonville showed up at a hospital
Emergency room. Before his death, he told the doctor, that he had been
Away on business, had taken a flight from Indonesia , changing planes in
Singapore , before returning home. He did not visit (Olive Garden),
While there. He did, as did all of the other victims, have what was
determined to be a puncture wound, on his right buttock.

Investigators discovered that the flight he was on had originated in India
The Civilian Aeronautics Board (CAB) ordered an immediate inspection of
The toilets of all flights from India , and discovered the Two-Striped
Telamonia spider's nests on 4 different planes! It is now believed that
these spiders can be anywhere in the country.

So please, before you use a public toilet, lift the seat to check for
spiders. It can save your life! And please pass this on to everyone you
care about.

CHECK THE UNDER SIDE OF THE TOILET SEAT BEFORE USING IT, SIMPLE !

Kev`s influence :?: Nice to hear true English spoken ;) Seriously though. ...Always lay a gas can on the ground when filling @ gas station..(static discharge) and think o us paying £5+ for a Brit gallon

Actually all Spiders are venomous Its just that the ones in most northern cooler climates don't have fangs long enough to puncture our skin.
My wife once rang my up at 03.30 when she was first in Australia to tell me there was a spider in her hotel room and what should she do ?
I said hit it with your shoe but don't miss, the hysterics had me in fits any how. :D

message claims that three women in Florida have died after being bitten by a venomous spider that was hiding under a restaurant toilet seat.

It is bullsh1t

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/toilet-spider-hoax.html

The Two-Striped Telamonia is a real spider that is native to Singapore, India, Bhutan, and Indonesia, but there are no reports of its bite causing illness or death in humans and it is generally considered harmless by spider experts.

to check any of these emails that get forwarded to you, go to HoaxSlayer and enter a few words from the email in the search box.

Any email that ends with the words 'Forward to all your friends' is 99% certain to be a hoax or at least exagerated.

Before flooding the web with hoax emails, check them out and save yourself the embarrasment of getting egg on your face when someone emails you back to say it is cr4p.

..and Kev says I'm misunderstood...I'm thinking he's right  .

I dont always know when they're hoaxes and when theyre not, so thanks for the suggestion of Hoaxslayers. My point, though, was that people -friends feel the need to send them in the first place. I already knew it was a bad idea with the cell phone and pumping gas--but spontaneous combustion as a result is a little OTT. And I HATE spiders, and avoid them if I can. But gee willikers, I have woods in the back yard here and there's going to be spiders and snakes and mice--its just a given.
I was just curious as to whether any of you receive these types of scare tactic emails (yes I am having second thoughts about who I considered friends  ) --along with the you have won the UK email lottery. :D
