I have someone doing the rendering on my house and have a question re the scratch coat he has done.

Is it essential the scratch coat is beaded across the whole job?

I was originally just getting the top half rendered and the guy doing the job applied all the necessary beading. I then decided i wanted to get the whole house rendered and he has not applied beading to the rest of the scrathc coat, he said he will do this when applying the k-rend in the new year.

Is he doing a s*~t job?

he can put the beads on later but now is a good time to make sure hes using the right beads, we had someone on here who bought a house with k rend and it was coming away at the beads because thinner beads than what was recomended was used and the k rend wasent thick enough, we had a k rend specialist on here but he hasent been on for a while if i remember rightly he specified that 16mm beads were to be used anyway heres a link to the process your plasterer will be doing to your house so you know whats going on, just out of interest what material did he use to put the scratch coat on? http://www.k-rend.co.uk/media/Application Instructions K Rend.pdf

Thanks for the helpw. I think the beads are the ones made by K-Rend.

He used sand & cement for the scratch coat. Is this correct?

sand and cement can be used but this voids Kilwaughters guarantee, i know this because i spoke to them on the phone a while back they will only guarantee their product if you use their own basecoat, so for instance if you get lots of cracks or any problems like that then its a waste of time getting in contact with Kilwaughter, if you want to verify what ive just said then phone them up they are really helpful
