Just over the past couple of days, the screen image on our LG Flatron monitor has started to shake or flicker. It's like the old Roobarb and Custard cartoon, if any of you are old enough to remember that.

I fitted a new PSU in the pc recently but it was fine afterwards, for about a week until this started, so I don't think it's to do with that.

Anyone know what can cause this kind of thing? :?

Loose connections?

You are likely to have removed the monitor data cable from the back of the PC to do the upgrade, is it now pushed firmly back in?

Do you have a video/graphics card as opposed to on board video/graphics?

It's quite common for the card to not be seated completely after the PC has had owt done to it or been moved, try pushing it back into it's slot.

Could also be a break in the cable, see if wiggling the data cable around does anything.

Iv seen this problem in about 5 customers homes up to now (im a technician) and every time it has been the display adapter (aka graphics card)

so the chances are it is the display adapter.

btw, your VDU (your screen) will be fine, nothing wrong with them.

cheers

You can get similar problems if someone has wrongly adjusted the clock or phase control of the monitor. If it has an auto adjust button, you could try pressing it. Also see if you can try the screen on another PC before rushing out to buy a graphics to make sure.

Another thing is have you recently moved a set of external speakers closer to it?

Hi. The speakers are where they always were, although they're a bit faulty in themselves. I recently fiddled with the graphic card seating in an attempt to investigate another problem (spontaneous shut-down, now solved), so maybe it's that?

My partner had to reset the clock recently as well.
