Can I screw one of these onto the corner upright of my uPVC conservatory, well clear of the glazing, to hold up 1 end of a light-weight 1kg shade sail? The other two ends will be into wooden fence

If you mean a corner post then yes, will very likely have aluminium box section reinforcing inside so either use self drilling screws or pilot drill first and use self tapers, self tapers without pilot holes results in snapped off heads
