Scrim onto artex

Hi all,

I have an artex ceiling (tested a sample and it does contain white asbestos) that I'd like to skim over.

There are several cracks - attached pic shows the worst of them. What's the best way of treating them? If I skim over them without scrim, the new surface will crack again. If I scrim them as-is, the tape won't sit entirely flat due to the texture. If I flatten the surface first, I risk disturbing the asbestos.

I should add that the texture is very light, maximum 1mm peaks, so I don't feel it's necessary to overboard the lot, which is what I'd do if the surface was a bit more pronounced.

Any suggestions please?

if you get a good quality scrim tape itll stick to the artex . then just grit over it and skim.

I had mine done, PVA grit and then skimmed worked fine.

I never use pva on ceilings. just saying.

I did mine by adding more screws if the boards moved either side of the crack then taped ,Blue grit then skim after 24 hours...no cracks after nearly six years

have you ever tried the green bostik version ? just asking.

No I've haven't, when I needed a bonding agent I chose BG and stuck with it but it was a 50/50 choice at the time

always used bg but tried the bostik green during lockdown and can’t see me using blue again. try it.
