I need to repair a big hole in a plasterboard ceiling. If I scrim over the join between the new board and existing ceiling, how do u feather the plaster..... if i don't scrim, is it likely to crack? I'm guessing id scrim and feather it well beyond the scrim..... is that the best option. Cant skim the entire ceiling cos its massive

yes it’ll crack. scrape enough existing plaster from the old surface to accept the depth of the tape.

anything that’ll remove it. back edge of a chisel blade?
what are you feathering into? paint?

williamglossop,

Depending on the size of the hole, here's a simple method of fixing it.
1. cut a squared piece of p/b that covers the extent of the hole - allow for how you intend to fix the board.
2. offer it to the hole and mark around it.
3. then cut out the ceiling damage to your marked lines.
4. offer up the square piece for a perfect fit, and fix it as suits.
4. skim & feather in.
